Sweater Vests Are Cool
I got really bored and wanted to watch something new on Netflix. I searched one of my nicknames, Lo, on a whim and lo and behold, there was a movie by that name. I was apprehensive about it at first since it looked like a horror movie about a man who summons a demon, the titular Lo, to rescue his girlfriend who has been dragged to Hell. I ‘m not good with gore at all, so I tend to avoid the horror genre. I gave “Lo” a chance and it’s become one of my favorite movies. There’s a bit of gore and horror (it’s about demons after all) but in the end the real demons that are faced are psychological and emotional as the protagonist, Justin, grapples with the concepts of evil, love, and humanity. The movie is set up like a stage play and can get a little hard to sit through at times. Justin is pretty much confined to his protective magic circle throughout the whole movie, so there really isn’t a lot of action. In general the writing is snappy and clever, especially Lo who is as sassy as they come, and the acting is well done. The demon make-up, particularly on Lo, is really great as well. I had suspicions about the final plot twist about halfway through, but I still teared up at the end during the big reveal. It’s a fantastic movie, and I’d recommend it if you’re into this kind of thing.
